Our Story
History of the Store
The Shawnee General Store, located at 542 River Road in the historic river village of Shawnee-on-Delaware, Pennsylvania (in the Pocono Mountains region), is one of the area's oldest continuously operating businesses. It was established in 1859 by Judge John Depuy Labar, who had moved to the area around 1850. The building has retained much of its original old-fashioned character. It serves as a vital staple for local residents and travelers along the Delaware River, providing essential goods in a community that dates back to early European settlement with earlier Native American presence including the Lenni Lenape, Minisink and Shawnee Indian Tribes.
